Statement

My current work uses mirrors carved with portraits of celebrities and world leaders, quotes from Facebook status, and photographs from our childhood.

The installation consists of creating a room within a room, with their reflective side facing towards the center. Three projectors light the outside of this mirrored room thus illuminating the non-reflective side of the mirrors

The mirrors in my installation lead the viewer to the center of the room giving the audience an opportunity to connect with their image being juxtaposed by the images of icons; and to deal with their self-consciousness, self-awareness, and self-representation.

I yearn to analyze the culture we live in, by trying to understand the people creating it. My work exposes one aspect of the subconscious essence of the audience and their juxtaposition of their image in relation to current culture and its social surroundings.

If art is something that has been created to expose the essence of a culture, my installation explores through art the issues of our current culture, and the interrelation between the members that compose it.
